R&D Food Safety Specialist

Job Description

To start with, the position of Food Safety Specialist sits comfortable in the Food Compliance Team. An incredible diverse team that helps each other learn, grow and develop. Just how we like it! And as a Food Safety Specialist you will be asked to take responsibility in identifying and preventing emerging Food Safety (SF) risks while defining the specific FS requirements for the different categories. For this, we don’t just need you to be a knowledgeable professional but also strongly rely on your interpersonal skills as well as your drive for success. Know that you’ll have a crucial role in creating and protecting the impact we look for in our value chain. With this said, we like you to take responsibility over the following tasks:

  • You are the center of FS expertise and make no compromise on food safety
  • You maintain and develop strategies to protect current products and define specific FS requirements for new product and process development
  • You validate and verify thermal processes (retorting, aseptic processing and packaging, continuous and in-package pasteurization)
  • You roll out Product monitoring programs for existing and emerging food safety risks
  • You monitor all the stages of food processing, ensuring that equipment is fit to use, and identify potential threats of contamination.
  • You develop technical documents, verify and validate global HACCP and CCP management.

Qualifications

Given the nature of the role we feel it’s important for you to have a certain level of seniority, as well as a solid understanding of your own added value. We thrive in diverse teams and look for people that appreciate that as much as we do. We can give you a list of “must haves”, however that’s not how we view your candidacy. We do, of course, take into consideration how much professional expertise you have within the food industry. Especially in cross-functional teams. Ideally with auditing experience. Ultimately we look at the bigger picture. But to give you a bit of guidance as to what we feel is needed in this role, we’ll share our “nice to have” list with you:

  • MSc. Food Microbiology, Food Chemistry, Food Technology or Food Science. 
  • Excellent knowledge of managing food safety risks, quality and food safety standards & practices (ISO / FSSC 22000, IFS, HACCP)
  • Knowledge of retort and aseptic packaging and processing design Knowledge of food safety and contaminant legislation
